NOTICE OF RACE

Saturday & Sunday, January 2-3, 1999
 
3. RULES
The regatta will be governed by the ICYRA Procedural Rules (Fall 1997-Spring 2001), the ISSA Procedural Rules (as modified by the PCISA), the 1997-2000 Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of US SAILING; the rules of the CFJ Class or PCIYRA regarding CFJ's (except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions, or the ICYRA Procedural Rules); and by the Sailing Instructions.
 
4. FORMAT & ELIGIBILITY
College Division One Team (A & B) CFJ Division may enter from each ICYRA member school according to the following district berth distribution:

17 PCIYRA, 2 MAISA, 1 MCSA, 2 NEISA, 2 NWIYRA, 2 SAISA, 2 SEISA, 2 Invites.

 
High School Division One Team (A & B CFJ Division's) from each PCISA member school may enter. A & B groups in both divisions will sail separately (i.e. College A then High School A - rotate boats - College B then High School B). A second "JV" team from a PCISA school may enter with the advanced approval from the PCISA President, Tim Hogan at (714) 434-4400 or THogan2124@aol.com.

VARSITY / JUNIOR VARSITY - A PCISA eligible school may enter 1 "junior varsity" team, separate from the varsity team, provided:

a.) Every sailor on both the "varsity team" and the "junior varsity team" meet the eligibility requirements of ISSA Procedural Rule 1; and

b.) Both the "varsity" and "junior varsity" teams use different sailors to complete their respective teams.

 
5. BOATS
College Division: Each team entered is responsible for providing "one" PCIYRA legal CFJ and PCIYRA legal set of sails for this event. Outside California schools should contact local area people or schools to arrange charters. A limited number of charter boats are available from the host school.
 
High School Division: Each team is responsible for providing one class legal CFJ and one class legal set of sails (main & jib) for this event. Spinnakers will NOT be used. Out of area schools may contact Tim Hogan for help with charters. All boats will be entered in a round robin format!!

7. HOUSING
Some housing may be available. Colleges please contact Mike Segerblom and High Schools please contact Tim Hogan.
 
8. ENTRY
The entry form must be completed and returned to Mike Segerblom at The US SAILING Center, Long Beach by January 1, 1999.
 
9. FEES
Entry Fee: $10 per team. Please make check payable to "USC Sailing".
 
10. SKIPPER'S MEETING AND SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
There will be a skipper's meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 1999 on the patio at ABYC. Sailing Instructions will be available at the Skipper's Meeting.
 
11. SAILING AREA
The sailing area will be in the turning basin off of ABYC.
 
12. DECISIONS OF THE JURY
Decisions of the jury will be final in accordance with RRS Rule 70.4.
 
13. TROPHIES
Trophies will be awarded to teams placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
 
14. DINNER
There will be a dinner at ABYC on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 5:00pm for all participants, family, friends and guests. There will be a $7.00 charge per person for the dinner and you must make reservations by 10:00 a.m. on Jan. 2, 1999.

16. PARTICIPATION
With the exception of RRS Rule 4, each school shall compete in all scheduled races. Any school breaking this rule, without permission of the Race Committee, is subject to severe disciplinary actions by the PCISA.
 
17. COACHING
All coaching shall be done from either:
a.) the dock at ABYC; or
b.) the beach adjacent to ABYC.
Any spectators on the water shall have no contact with any competitor except when rendering assistance under RRS Rule 1.1, or as instructed by the Race Committee.
 
NOTE: There will be a short presentation on Intercollegiate Sailing following dinner on Saturday night. Students and parents interested in information about college sailing in general, or specific collegiate programs should plan to attend. All colleges should plan to be represented.

I agree to comply with all rules and regulations of Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, US SAILING, ICYRA Procedural Rules, and other rules under which this race or series is sailed, and I agree to indemnify and hold Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, USC, its Officers, Directors and committeemen harmless of any liability of any nature whatsoever for accident or injury to myself, my crew, my guests and/or my boat, while racing or engaging in any activities related to or connected therewith. I certify that all members of my team, including myself, are able to swim. I agree to abide by the decisions of the race and protest committees and not to appeal their decisions unless permission is given by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club.
       
I further agree not to sail in hazardous conflict with commercial shipping.
