Position: Geneva Lake Sailing School Executive Director (Full Time Position - Year Round)

Compensation Range: $25,000 - $55,000 depending on experience of candidate.

The Successful Candidate:

As the first full time Director of the school, the successful candidate will be expected to achieve two specific goals: 1) to actively promote and develop new programs for the school; 2) to grow the school's enrollment so the program and all paid positions are fully funded. He/she will be expected to have the planning, leadership and training skills to achieve these objectives.  Solid experience managing collegiate or high school sailing programs is desirable.  US Sailing  Instructor/Coach Certification is also desirable.

Job Purpose:
* Upgrade current GLSS Programs.
* Supervise instructors and make hiring and firing recommendations to the GLSS Board.
* Expand, document and maintain curriculum.
* Prepare and manage the annual budget in support of the Board's goal of breaking even on operations, excluding capital purchases.
* Promote the school to Lake Geneva Yacht Club (LGYC) members and the local community to expand participation and attract new members to the LGYC.  This would include developing and implementing a marketing plan, creating promotional materials and managing the web site.
* Encourage young sailors to go beyond local racing and successfully compete in national and international events.
* Develop a high school (young adult) racing program with local high schools (both Spring and Fall).  Run regattas against Milwaukee and Chicago schools.  The goal is to emulate Minnetonka and Chicago yacht club programs.
* Make recommendations as to equipment needs to support programs.
* Develop a program to teach adults to sail and to support the growth of the LGYC.

GLSS Current Programs

The Geneva Lake Sailing School has taught sailing to youths on Geneva Lake for more than 68 years.  Currently the program attracts 100 to 125 students per year in a combination community sailing program and racing program.  The racing program is made up principally of children of members of the LGYC.  Classes are taught in X Boats and Optimist Dinghies.  The school also owns a 16' Zodiac, 4 small Whalers and 2 Sonars for adult lessons.  The school has a 65 year lease to run a sailing school on the grounds of the Lake Geneva Yacht Club. 

The Lake Geneva Yacht Club

The Lake Geneva Yacht Club is a founding member of the Inland Lake Yachting Association (ILYA).  It owns 400 feet of shorefront on Geneva Lake and has excellent boat storage and cranes for boat launching.  The Club has a long history of running excellent one design, competitive sailboat racing on Geneva Lake in Inland Lake Scows and keelboats and has a number sailors who have competed at both national and international levels.
