12/14/98 Coach, Jersey Shore Youth Sailing Team
The Jersey Shore Youth Sailing Team is looking for a motivated and qualified coach for 1999. The team includes a talented group of sailors from the New Jersey Shore. The coaching opportunity is unique in that it is possible to sail in the major North American Laser Championships while still earning some income. In 1999, there is a planned trip to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Houston to the North Americans In Mexico and then to the US Nationals in Mission Bay. Job Title: Jersey Shore Youth Sailing Team Coach
Job Prerequisites:
* very knowledgeable about Laser and Laser Radial rigging and racing
* successful racing record in Lasers and/or Radials at the national level
* some knowledge of doublehanded spinnaker/trapeze boats (Club 420 and Laser 2)
* experience coaching, in particular youth sailors
* current drivers license with good driving record
* experience driving large vehicles towing a large trailer
* at least 21 years old, preferably college graduate
* ability to relate well to and manage 15 - 18 year olds
* US SAILING instructor certification required
 
Job Description:
* teach weekend clinics in spring in preparation for Junior Olympic Nationals
* teach evening clinics during summer between regattas
* teach weekend clinics in fall
* coach team members at regattas; events planned for 1999 include:
- Laser/Radial/Laser 2 Midwinters East
- Laser/Radial/Laser 2 District 10 Championship (New Jersey)
- Junior Olympic Regatta (Laser, Radial, Club 420) (Houston)
- Laser/Radial/Laser 2 North Americans (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico)
- Canadian Championships (Laser/Radial/Laser 2), (St. Margaret's Bay, NS)
- Laser/Radial/Laser 2 U.S. Nationals (Mission Bay Y.C., California)
- CORK (Laser/Radial/Laser 2) (Kingston, Ontario)
- Bruce Cup (Laser/Radial/Laser 2), Dallas, TX
- Orange Bowl (Laser/Radial/Laser 2), Miami, FL
* drive van, multi-boat trailer, coach boat and team members to and from regattas
* supervise and coach team members at regattas
* maintain coach boat, trailer and van, as required
* develop overall coaching strategy; develop appropriate lesson plans
* recruit new team members, plan clinics, coordinate road trips, etc.
 
Dates:
Availability in early May preferable; job can be shared among several coaches.
Free housing will be supplied.
