Head Sailing Instructor and Assistant Sailing Instructor - Madison Beach Club, Madison, CT.
The Madison Beach Club located in Madison,Connecticut is looking for applicants for Head Sailing Instructor and Assistant Sailing Instructor for our summer 1999 junior sailing program. MBC is an Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association member club,geographically located east of New Haven and west of New London. Sailing classes are on Long Island Sound.
 
The Junior fleet consists of about 35 privately owned Optimists, 8 Club 420s & 6 Laser/Radials. Club provides 5 outboard support boats, including a travel team road boat.
 
Classes are for 7-16 year olds, 70-80 participants in an 8 week program with 4 full time instructors and 2 junior instructors. Classes are 1.5 - 3 hours long, aproximately 12 children per class.Children range from beginner to national level competitors.
 
Employment would start approximately June 15th and would end August 25th which includes pre and post season work weeks. Most weekends off.
 
The Head Instructor and #2 position are responsible for lesson planning and teaching 420 beginner, intermediate, racing and team racing classes. There is also a travel team. Also lesson planning and teaching Optimist beginner, intermediate, 1st time racer classes and racing travel team coach. Additional responsibilites include boat maintenance and repair, occasional launch driving, and going to local junior regattas as a coach.
 
Collegiate level sailing and racing is a plus. Organizational and teaching skills, ability to interact effectively with parents AND children, and overall enthusiasm and love of the sport of sailing are a must. We will fund USSA certification if necessary.
 
We also have a dockmaster position available to someone who will work on Friday,Saturday, Sunday and Monday totaling aproximately 40 hours. This would provide for Tuesday, Wednesday and thursday OFF! The dockmaster should be proficient in small pwerboasts and have a general knowledge of sailing and water sports. Responsibilities include opening and closing the dock house, helping memebers and students launch and retreive small boats via two small cranes and providing launch service in our small anchorage.
 
This dockmaster position would start June 21st and run to Labor Day.
