2006 Great Oaks Regatta

The conditions on
Sunday started out the same as Saturday afternoon. Wind was blowing
20 gusting to 25 when the sailors arrived at Southern Yacht Club at
7:30 am on Sunday Morning.
By 9am the
breeze was down to 15 knots from the NNE.
The breeze
clocked to the right as it continued to diminish throughout the day.
The decision was
made to abandon the red fleet and blue fleet approach and to start
all 30 420’s on one starting line. This allowed the race committee
to complete 10 races.
Brother Martin
from New Orleans
won the regatta on a tie breaker with St Thomas Aquinas from Ft
Lauderdale, Fl.
Seminole High
School from Seminole, Fl received the Larry and Barbara White Trophy
for being the top finisher in their first appearance at a Great Oaks
Regatta.
