2000 ISSA National Team Race Championship

The Baker Trophy

May 19-21, 2000

Virginia Interscholastic Sailing Association

Old Dominion University

Regatta Chairman: Randy Stokes

Chief Judge: Don Becker

Regatta Highlights: 12 teams sailed in the Baker Trophy at Old Dominion University.  90 races were completed over two days.  Saturday highlights  included 57 races of the 1st round robin being completed in a northeasterly  breeze of 8-12.  Protests were settled on the water with the use of a judging observation / umpiring system.  Sunday resulted in the completion of the first rotation.  The top four schools sailed a championship double round robin.  A consolation single round robin was sailed with 2 brackets consisting of teams 5-8 and 9-12.  Sunday's breeze was light and shifty out of the ENE.  The reverse N-course was used throughout the regatta.  The competitors demonstrated excellent sailing skills, sportsmanship and  respect for the boats and equipment. Thank you to the Virginia Interscholastic Sailing Association, Vanguard Sailboats, Christopher Newport University,  Hampton University, all the judges and volunteers and Old Dominion University for putting on an excellent event.
