Connecticut Open -Results

Over 60 schools signed up for the CT League Open in mid-October, now a fixture on the high school sailing circuit after nine years on the Fall schedule. This early and eager signup caused us to ask Jay Kehoe at Yale if he could schedule a regatta for the overflow, which he did 3-4 October in 420s. The Open at Coast Guard October 17-18 in 420s, CFJs and Lasers drew a full house, although at the last minute both events lost people to the PSATs scheduled at those times.

The Open has been great fun, with open substitution and no requirement to belong, affording many sailors with a chance to sample school sailing and it's potential in their lives.

At Yale, Belmont Hill (39)was tops over the two days, Thatcher Spring and teammates earning first honors, Mt Desert(63), E. Greenwich(71),Madison(91),Bishop Hendricken(95), Branford(122),Northport(129),Nantucket(134), Xavier(174) in 420s, and in Laser radials Brabdon Wall(Milton) on Saturday and Stokes(?) on Sunday topped the fleet .Amy Gross and school coaches ran the event. Shifty easterly on Saturday - Amy ran a brief clinic before racing.

At Coast Guard, Bill Healy and several Cadet members of the CGA team ran two great days of racing in a range on conditions, including the Thames classic of a strong ebb and North wind - how far up the shallows do I need to go?

Tabor won overall for the two days, garnering the CT League Open Trophy, with the strongest showing in all three divisions(129), and already has spoken for a spot for next year.Falmouth HS was 2nd(215) and Fairfield 3rd(219)Prout 4th(228), St. Sebastian's 5th(259) and Hotchkiss 6th(261), top 6.
