Results and Story Cressy Pacific Coast Eliminations

Troy Treaccar, a senior at Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, California, won the Pacific Coast High School Single-Handed Championships in Long Beach.

The top five positions to qualify for the Cressy Championship finished out with four sailors from the San Diego area: Andrew Campbell (The Bishop’s School), Bryan Lake (University High of San Diego), Michael Anderson-Mitterling (Coronado High School), and David Hochart (Mission Bay High School).

The Championship was held on Saturday, October 17 in the ocean near Long Beach. Thirty-four high school sailors from schools in the San Diego area, the Newport Beach area, the Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay area competed for a berth to Nationals.

Saturday provided unpredictable conditions for the Laser Radial sailors. The morning breeze about 20 knots (Santa Anas) was blowing offshore; then early afternoon the sea breeze was coming from the opposite direction (westerly); it hit the Santa Anas leaving the competitors with no wind, marginal sailing conditions and extremely shifty conditions. By mid-afternoon the sea breeze won out, bringing 10-15 knots and great racing.

The race committee, provided by the United States Sailing Center in Long Beach held 5 races, with no throw-outs.
